Why Not Stealing?

Well, because stealing is morally wrong and “not ok” from a legal standpoint.

…Oh… you mean why is this site called “Not Stealing?” As I was searching for domain names related to business and life help, I came across hundreds (yes, literally) that were already taken by more “reputable” or at least less “procrastinate-y” individuals. And this one wasn’t.

On a more serious note (sort of), I wanted to create a blog that wasn’t too serious that presented business and life-improvement topics in a more approachable manner. Also, I’m not a writer by trade and knew that I wouldn’t want to work on a site unless it was fun for me. Plus, not stealing is a good way to live your life. I like the idea that if you’re trying to improve your life and make more money in the process, if someone asks you what you’re doing, you could respond with “not stealing.”

Many people seem to have an aversion to talking about “career advancement” or “getting a raise” with their manager. I’m hoping to help you understand that it’s not stealing to get paid what you deserve. It’s not stealing to reach your full potential and be as skilled and effective as possible.

Over the course of my career, and especially as a manager, I’ve often encountered many “k, what do I do now?” moments. Maybe you have too (or currently are). I’ve also encountered many coworkers who were underpaid, underutilized, or generally just not meeting their full potential. Maybe you know that person, and maybe that person is even you. This site is an attempt to address all of these issues.

So if you’re looking for answers to questions like “how do I advance my career,” “how can I switch to a different job,” “how do I manage effectively,” etc., you’ve come to the right place.

How this Site is Organized

I divide this site into four main categories, they are:

  1. BlogPersonal Development
  2. Business Software
  3. Start Your Business
  4. Business Books

Blog – Personal Development

All of the resources for personal development are located under the “Blog” tab at the top, with these subsections:

  • Career Advancement – resources for improving your career: getting a raise/promotion, qualifying for a better job, negotiation, etc.
  • Self “Improvement” –  life “advice” that will “help” you “succeed” – maybe just go read some of these posts, then all the quotation marks will probably make more sense

Business Software

This contains various categories of business software, with my reviews and recommendations. I also include “quick-comparison” charts to help you easily compare multiple tools at once. Here are the main criteria I review:

  • Pricing: of different packages
  • Free Plan: whether a free plan is offered and its limitations
  • Number of Users: at the various price points
  • Ease of Implementation: whether a piece of software is simple to get started or incorporate into your workflow
  • Ease of Use: whether a piece of software is intuitive or complicated
  • Key Differentiators: what sets the software apart from its competition

I make these reviews as “to-the-point” as possible so you don’t have to spend a lot of time digging to try to find the best software for your use-case. A large part of my career has been dedicated to choosing and implementing software to keep the business running as efficiently as possible. Back then, I wish I had this type of resource that was quick, and made it easy to compare various business tools.

Start Your Business

This section is dedicated to starting an online business if you’re into potential late nights, stress, lack of sleep, and the possibility of money. Hmm, that sentence sounded too “real.” What I mean is, this section has really useful information for making a business that actually works. It will still take work to find success, but this info will make the work a whole lot easier. We discuss topics like “passive income,” “how to start a blog,” “top side hustle ideas,” “freelance work”, etc.

Business Books

These are quick “too long didn’t read” (TL;DR) book summaries, along with my review and top recommendations. I really love reading and my favorite genre is “self-help business books.” Yeah, I know, I get that look all the time. Maybe it’s not your favorite genre. Also, people probably use words like “cool” and “well-adjusted” to describe you. But hopefully, you can benefit from my reading preferences and only read the books that fit your lifestyle.

So, You Know, Don’t Steal

But it’s not stealing to take advantage of the income and skill development that you deserve. You do have my permission to “steal” advice from Not Stealing to make your professional career as successful as possible. If you have any questions or want to request information on other topics you would love to learn about, feel free to contact us. Don’t make your own mistakes when we can make them for you!

Er, you know what I mean.
